Folarin Balogun has an easy Chelsea transfer decision
0
Folarin Balogun is at a career crossroads again, and the data suggests he should avoid Chelsea at all costs.
The USMNT striker, still just 25, finds himself at the center of a transfer tug-of-war after AS Monaco signaled they are open to offers. Chelsea have been linked, but according to analytics firm SciSports, a move to Stamford Bridge would be a disaster — the Blues score a pitiful 48 out of 100 on their Club Fit rating for Balogun.
By contrast, Juventus — also reportedly exploring a move, per Gazzetta dello Sport — come in at a much healthier 70. The best fit, however, belongs to Crystal Palace with a score of 82, followed closely by AS Roma on 80. Manchester City rank well stylistically, but game time behind Erling Haaland would be scarce. Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund also rate as strong options.
Balogun’s recent past has been anything but quiet. He was the USMNT’s standout performer before a red card against Bosnia and Herzegovina in the round of 32 of the World Cup sparked a corruption scandal. FIFA suspended his one-match ban after personal intervention from US president Donald Trump, but the controversy derailed the team’s focus, leading to an embarrassing round-of-16 exit against Belgium.
Ironically, the Brooklyn-born forward faced the same choice in 2023 when he left Arsenal — Chelsea or Monaco. He chose Monaco. Three years on, the decision appears just as clear: steer clear of Chelsea.
