Chelsea Act Fast: Quenda Already In as Garnacho Replacement

0
Chelsea have already secured their replacement for Alejandro Garnacho, with Geovany Quenda officially joining the squad ahead of the 2026-27 campaign after a €50 million move from Sporting CP. The Argentina winger is set to leave Stamford Bridge after just one season. Garnacho arrived from Manchester United for €46.2 million last summer but managed only one Premier League goal. Both sides have agreed that a permanent exit is the best route, and the 22-year-old did not report for pre-season training last week. Chelsea value Garnacho at €50m and have ruled out a loan, wanting only a permanent sale to fund further business. Xabi Alonso’s side are also tracking Crystal Palace defender Maxence Lacroix and Rayo Vallecano left-back Pep Chavarria, while Marc Cucurella has been sold to Real Madrid. Quenda, a Portugal Under-21 international, missed five months of last season with a foot injury but is now fully fit. The left-footed winger can play on either flank and is seen as one of Europe’s top young talents. He is expected to directly replace Garnacho on the left and compete with Jamie Gittens for a starting spot if Alonso sticks with a back four. Should the manager revert to a 3-4-3, Quenda could operate as a wing-back – a role he thrived in under Ruben Amorim at Sporting. Chelsea remain interested in adding another versatile attacker, with Morgan Rogers their top target, but Quenda’s arrival means a new left winger is no longer the priority.
