Chelsea Close to New Deal for Wonderkid Jesse Derry as Garnacho Exit Looms

0
Chelsea are on the verge of securing the long-term future of teenage sensation Jesse Derry, with the 19-year-old reportedly close to putting pen to paper on an improved contract at Stamford Bridge. The England U19 international joined the Blues from Crystal Palace’s academy last summer and made an immediate impact. Despite limited first-team minutes, Derry found the net six times and set up three more in 17 Premier League 2 outings for the U21 side, while also bagging five goals in just eight UEFA Youth League appearances. His progress earned him three senior appearances in the 2025-26 campaign, including a maiden Premier League start against Nottingham Forest in April. Derry’s current deal runs until 2029, but the club is ready to reward his rapid development with improved terms. Several European heavyweights, including Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich, have circled the teenager this summer, but Chelsea are now confident of tying him down to a fresh long-term agreement. The immediate question, however, is whether Derry will be given the chance to prove himself under new head coach Xabi Alonso. A loan move has been touted, but the decision is likely to be delayed until after pre-season, where the youngster can stake his claim. That potential promotion could come at the expense of Alejandro Garnacho, who endured a difficult debut season after arriving from Manchester United. The Argentine winger scored just one Premier League goal — against Sunderland in October — and has not featured for his country since 2024. Sources including insider sources have confirmed Chelsea are open to selling him, with Serie A side AS Roma among the clubs monitoring the situation closely.
