Chelsea Transfer News Today: First Granit Xhaka bid as deal agreed
sources runs through the latest transfer news, rumours and gossip, including updates on and .
Granit Xhaka bid
Sunderland have rejected a €9.2 million (£8m) offer for Granit Xhaka from Chelsea, according to transfer expert insider.
Chelsea are determined to sign Xhaka as they look for midfield reinforcements ahead of Enzo Fernandez’s potential departure to Real Madrid and they have now seen an opening bid worth €9.2m turned down by Sunderland.
That is according to Ornstein, who reports that Sunderland have informed Chelsea that Xhaka is not for sale at any price. The Blues believe their opening proposal was fair, but Sunderland “have deemed it to be unacceptable and regard the approach as lacking respect” for the club and Xhaka himself.
Sunderland have also told Chelsea that any further offers will be rejected too.
Malo Gusto agrees Man City move
Chelsea defender Malo Gusto has reportedly agreed to join Manchester City this summer as he targets a reunion with former boss Enzo Maresca.
Gusto isn’t regarded as one of Chelsea’s ‘untouchables’, but the club aren’t willing to let him leave for a cheap fee, with rumours suggesting that it will take €86.7 million (£75m) to successfully lure him away from west London this summer.
The Frenchman has been earmarked as a priority transfer target by City and he has agreed to join the club this summer, according to a bombshell report from Foot Mercato.
Gusto is keen to work under Enzo Maresca again and Man City are now ready to engage in formal talks with Chelsea over a transfer fee, which may prove difficult considering the 23-year-old’s contract at Stamford Bridge isn’t due to expire until 2030.
Trevoh Chalobah asking price
Chelsea will only allow to leave this summer if they receive a proposal worth €40.5million (£35m), according to the media.
Chalobah made 47 appearances and scored three goals last season and he is the subject of strong interest from Serie A side Como.
The Mail understands Como, who are managed by former Chelsea star Cesc Fabregas, have failed with a €25.4m (£22m) offer for Chalobah and talks are set to continue, with Chelsea holding out for €34.7m (£30m) plus €5.8m (£5m) in add-ons.
Chelsea eye new left-back
Chelsea have reportedly made contact with Rayo Vallecano over a shock summer deal for Pep Chavarria following the sale of Marc Cucurella to Real Madrid.
It’s understood the Blues sanctioned Cucurella’s departure due to the presence of Jorrel Hato as an able replacement, however they are now keen to sign a new back-up left-back ahead of the 2026-27 campaign.
Chelsea have begun scouring the market for possible alternatives and they have now earmarked Chavarria as a surprise option for the role, as per Spanish outlet Marca.
It’s reported that “initial contact” has been made over a potential summer deal, with Chelsea aware they may be required to act quickly as the 28-year-old has already received offers from a number of possible suitors.
Folarin Balogun wanted
Chelsea are monitoring a possible summer move for AS Monaco striker Folarin Balogun, according to CaughtOffside.
The USA forward, who has two goals at the World Cup, has reportedly informed Monaco of his desire to leave and Ligue 1 side will demand a fee of at least €50m to sanction a sale before the end of the summer window.
Balogun scored 19 times last season, and Newcastle are also interested in finalising a deal for his signature.
