Alonso makes surprise Chelsea transfer decision as Romano confirms bid
will allow to leave the club this summer amid interest from Serie A side , according to football transfer news expert insider.
The England international made 47 appearances across all competitions last season and he was often the Blues’ first-choice central defender due to Levi Colwill’s lengthy layoff with an anterior cruciate ligament injury.
As a result of his form, Chalobah was rewarded with a place in England’s World Cup squad after Valentino Livaremento was forced to withdraw from injury, but he may well have already played his final game for his boyhood club.
The 26-year-old, who was placed in Chelsea’s ‘Bomb Squad’ in 2023 and 2024, has been heavily linked with a permanent Stamford Bridge exit on a number of occasions during his career at the club, however a departure may finally take place ahead of next season.
Como boss Cesc Fabregas has earmarked Chalobah as a top target ahead of their first ever Champions League campaign next year and he is keen to raid his former club for the England defender when the Serie A transfer window opens later this month.
Previously, it was understood that Chelsea would look to keep Chalobah this summer, but their stance has now changed.
That is according to Romano, who posted on X: “Trevoh Chalobah can leave Chelsea this summer and Como send initial official bid for the centre back.
“Understand Inter have also looked at Chalobah among centre back options. English CB focused on World Cup but UCL clubs keen.”
New manager Xabi Alonso has been given significant transfer power upon his appointment at Stamford Bridge and Chelsea’s decision to allow Chalobah to depart has therefore likely come from the Spaniard, despite the fact he could use three centre-backs next season.
Analysis: Chelsea shouldn’t sell Trevoh Chalobah this summer
Although Chelsea have intensified their pursuit of Crystal Palace star Maxence Lacroix, selling Chalobah may be a huge error unless a significant offer is received.
The Englishman isn’t universally loved by Blues fans, but he certainly isn’t the first centre-back who should be offloaded based on form.
Benoit Badiashile, Axel Disasi, Tosin Adarabioyo and Wesley Fofana should all arguably be sold first, while there is certainly a case to be made that Mamadou Sarr would greatly benefit from another loan spell away from Stamford Bridge after barely featuring following his recall from Strasbourg in January.
With Josh Acheampong, Jorrel Hato, Colwill and Lacroix as four solid options at centre-back, Chelsea would still benefit from at least one more player in that position, especially as Acheampong and Hato could play at full-back, and Chalobah has proven his credentials far better than his peers over the past 12 months.
If a fee near his Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €51.6 million arrives, then a sale may be wise but if not, Chelsea should look to keep the 26-year-old.
