Xabi Alonso maps out Chelsea goalkeeper reshuffle as Slonina and Jorgensen push for exits

0
Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso is already planning a revamp of his goalkeeping department ahead of his first season at Stamford Bridge, with two shot-stoppers angling for moves away. Gabriel Slonina and Filip Jorgensen have both made it clear they want regular first-team football elsewhere, leaving the Blues to weigh up options for a third-choice goalkeeper. According to sources, Slonina has informed the club of his desire to secure a transfer or loan, and he is currently training with sister club Strasbourg in Ligue 1. The United States international needs to impress Strasbourg boss Hugo Oliveira to make the switch permanent or temporary. Jorgensen, however, is less keen on joining Strasbourg, who finished eighth in Ligue 1 and reached the UEFA Conference League semi-finals last season. sources reports that Coventry City, now managed by Chelsea legend Frank Lampard, could be a possible destination for the Danish-born shot-stopper. With Slonina and Jorgensen heading for the exit, Alonso is assessing his goalkeeping ranks. The club are looking at the transfer market for a third-choice option, though an internal solution remains possible. Robert Sanchez is currently the No.1, while highly-rated Belgium Under-21 international Mike Penders is expected to challenge for the starting spot after a loan spell at Strasbourg where he made 50 appearances. Penders, who joined Chelsea from Genk in 2025, was included in Belgium's World Cup squad and was an unused substitute as the Red Devils reached the quarter-finals. Jorgensen arrived from Villarreal for €23 million (£20m) in July 2024 on a seven-year contract but has made only 36 appearances in two seasons, unable to dislodge Sanchez. Slonina joined from Chicago Fire in August 2022 and has yet to play a first-team game for Chelsea, spending loans at KAS Eupen and Barnsley.
