Xabi Alonso makes definitive decision as Chelsea close in on €50m sale of Alejandro Garnacho

0
Alejandro Garnacho is not training with the Chelsea first team after being transfer-listed by the club, according to the media. The 22-year-old Argentine winger, who joined from Manchester United last summer for €46 million (£40m), struggled to secure a regular starting spot during his debut season at Stamford Bridge, scoring eight goals across all competitions. New Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has officially begun work at the club's Cobham training ground following his appointment in May, and sources indicate Garnacho has not taken part in those early sessions. The Mail understands the Spainard has already decided the winger is not part of his plans for the coming campaign, and the club are working to find a solution before the transfer window closes. According to transfer specialist insider, Chelsea value Garnacho at €52 million (£45m) for Premier League suitors and €50 million (£42m) for clubs outside England. Two Champions League sides are reportedly interested, with widespread reports linking Serie A outfit Roma as one of them. However, Roma prefer a loan move while Chelsea will only sanction a permanent sale this summer. Chelsea are under financial pressure to raise funds for Alonso's rebuild. The club posted a pre-tax loss of £262.4 million (€306.2m) for the year ending June 30, 2025 – the largest ever recorded by a Premier League club. They have already sold Marc Cucurella to Real Madrid for an initial €55 million (£46m) in June, while Tyrique George joined Everton in a deal worth up to €28 million (£24m) earlier this month. insider sources also reports Chelsea are close to selling Andrey Santos to Manchester United for €58 million (£50m). Despite the outgoings, Alonso has been backed with the signing of highly-rated defender Marco Palestra from Atalanta for €55 million (£46m). insider sources adds that Chelsea remain keen on adding a centre-back and a left-back, with Crystal Palace's Maxence Lacroix and Rayo Vallecano's Pep Chavarria on their wishlist.
