Mbappe Slams Paraguayan Senator Over Racist Remarks: 'You Are Despicable'

0
Kylian Mbappe has ripped into a Paraguayan senator after she unleashed a torrent of racist attacks aimed at the France star’s background and education, calling her “despicable” and unfit for public office. Celeste Amarilla, a member of the Liberal Radical Party, posted the inflammatory comments on X following Paraguay’s Round of 16 exit at the hands of France in the World Cup. Mbappe, who scored the decisive penalty in that 2-1 victory, fired back with a blistering statement. “Madame Celeste Amarilla, you are a despicable woman and unworthy of your position,” Mbappe wrote. “You do not represent Paraguay — a country that poured passion and honor into this competition. Through your reckless racism, the world has already forgotten the historic effort your players made. People like you will never be allowed to spread hatred freely.” The French Football Federation (FFF) condemned the remarks as “utterly abhorrent” and confirmed it will pursue criminal charges. “These statements bring shame on those who make them and those who share them. Our players represent France, and France is being insulted,” the FFF said in a statement. Mbappe’s penalty sealed the win and set up a quarterfinal clash with Morocco in Boston on Thursday. With seven goals in the tournament, he sits level with Lionel Messi and Erling Haaland atop the scoring charts. The incident follows separate racist comments from former Paraguay goalkeeper Jose Luis Chilavert, who called France “a squad from Africa” before the match. FFF president Philippe Diallo labeled Chilavert a “disgrace,” saying, “If he was once a great goalkeeper, he has now fallen into disgrace.”
