Holders St Mirren cruise as Linlithgow Rose stun Morton in Scottish League Cup

St Mirren kicked off the defence of their Premier Sports Cup crown with a routine 4-0 victory over Dumbarton, but the headlines belonged to the giant-killers from the Lowland League. Linlithgow Rose produced the shock of the first round by beating second-tier Greenock Morton on their own patch. Scottish Cup finalists Dunfermline Athletic also fell to a surprise defeat, losing to third-tier East Kilbride. Dundee had to dig deep to avoid a home upset against Airdrieonians, coming from behind twice to prevail. Premiership side Falkirk had no such trouble, thumping Edinburgh City. Dundee United needed a stoppage-time penalty from Zac Sapsford to edge past fourth-tier Stirling Albion. Arbroath, Ayr United, Hamilton Academical, Partick Thistle, Queen's Park, Raith Rovers, Ross County and Stenhousemuir all picked up wins. Samuel Ramos, making his debut, scored twice for St Mirren, with Chris Mochrie and Thomas Falconer also on target. East Kilbride's Lewis McGrattan marked his debut with a goal as his side saw off Dunfermline 3-0. Ross County hammered Annan Athletic 4-1 away, with Brian Graham netting a brace.
