Jordan Henderson to undergo wrist surgery after World Cup celebration injury

England midfielder Jordan Henderson is expected to require surgery on the wrist he injured while celebrating his team's 3-2 round-of-16 victory over Mexico, raising serious doubts about his availability for the rest of the World Cup.
The 36-year-old appeared to land awkwardly as he tumbled over the advertising hoardings at the iconic Azteca Stadium and was eventually stretchered off the pitch.
"Jordan just fell over and injured his wrist. It looks really bad," England head coach Thomas Tuchel told broadcaster One after the match. "It's a quite serious injury and it doesn't fit to the evening that Jordan is now not with us. The doctor told me he is in hospital."
Henderson was taken to a hospital in Mexico City accompanied by a member of England's support staff following Monday's game and did not travel back with the squad to their base in Kansas City.
It is understood the Brentford midfielder is keen to remain with the squad for the remainder of their stay in the United States.
