UEFA, Belgian FA in talks after FIFA lifts ban on USMNT striker Balogun
0
UEFA and the Royal Belgian Football Association are currently in discussions about the next steps after FIFA overturned the disqualification of United States international striker Folarin Balogun, according to Politico.
European football's governing body is expected to release an official statement in response to FIFA's decision. Balogun, a New York-born forward who also holds Nigerian roots, had been barred from representing the USMNT due to procedural issues surrounding his change of football nationality. The world federation's intervention has now cleared the way for the 22-year-old to feature in official international matches.
Both UEFA and the Belgian FA are now working to determine whether the ruling will have implications for regulatory frameworks at the European level. Balogun currently plays his club football for AS Monaco in Ligue 1, but the core of this matter revolves around his national team eligibility.
