British MP Asks Infantino to Postpone Quansah's Suspension After World Cup Red Card
0
Noah Lowe, a Labour Party member of the British Parliament, has formally requested FIFA President Gianni Infantino to temporarily lift the suspension of England defender Jarell Quansah. The appeal stems from the red card Quansah received during a dramatic World Cup 2026 round-of-16 clash against Mexico, which England lost 2-3.
In his letter to Infantino, Lowe acknowledged the referee's decision was justified but argued that the punishment should not cut short the player's tournament. “While I believe Jarell Quansah fairly received that red card and that refereeing rules must be applied consistently, I am convinced it would be right to suspend his ban until this World Cup is over,” the MP wrote.
FIFA has yet to officially respond to the request. The governing body’s disciplinary committee is now expected to decide whether Quansah, who risks missing a potential final or third-place match, will be allowed to continue playing in the competition.
