Salah on Egypt's exit: 'God's will, and I won't comment on the refereeing'

1
Egypt captain Mohamed Salah has broken his silence after his side's dramatic 2-3 defeat to Argentina in the Round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup. "First of all, it was God's will," Salah said. "Regarding the refereeing, I prefer not to comment. That's football – things happen." Egypt pushed the favorites hard but ultimately fell short in a tense contest. Salah, who led by example, admitted after the final whistle that the team gave everything but the fine margins decided the outcome. The elimination stings for Egypt, who had hopes of advancing further. However, Salah urged the team to look ahead and focus on future competitions.
