Oyarzabal Ends Barcelona Speculation: 'I'm Very Happy at Real Sociedad'

Mikel Oyarzabal has poured cold water on speculation that he could leave Real Sociedad for Barcelona this summer, insisting he remains fully committed to the Basque club. The Spain international has been in sensational form at the World Cup, scoring four goals in four group matches to help La Roja advance to the knockout stages. His performances have reportedly caught the eye of Barcelona, who are in the market for a striker after Robert Lewandowski’s departure. However, Oyarzabal made it clear where his future lies. “I have already said several times that I am very happy at Real, that for me it has been my home and that they have also sheltered me in the most difficult moments,” he told SPORT. “Thanks to Real I'm here. I can add little more.” The 29-year-old has spent his entire club career at Real Sociedad, amassing 133 goals in 437 appearances and winning two Copa del Rey titles. He also famously scored the winner in the Euro 2024 final against England. Barcelona, meanwhile, have reportedly tabled a bid for Atlético Madrid’s Julián Álvarez, but the Rojiblancos rejected a €150m offer from Real Madrid in June and insist the Argentine is not for sale. Oyarzabal will next be in action when Spain face Portugal in a heavyweight Round of 16 clash on Monday.
