Barcelona secure €210m lifeline to fund Julian Alvarez pursuit

0
Barcelona have reached a €210 million agreement that will transform their summer transfer window and bring long-term target Julian Alvarez within reach. The Catalan side have secured a loan against future television rights revenue, with €105 million arriving in July and another €105 million in November. Sources told Mundo Deportivo the cash injection is “primarily to finance signings and payroll.” The move comes after delays to Barcelona’s Espai Barca project, especially construction hold-ups that have postponed the opening of revenue-generating areas like Camp Nou’s VIP boxes. Barca have already completed the €80 million signing of Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United and are closing in on Borussia Dortmund winger Karim Adeyemi. But the priority remains a marquee striker to replace Robert Lewandowski, who left as a free agent at the end of June. Julian Alvarez of Atletico Madrid is the player Barca have earmarked as that signing. Atletico have repeatedly rejected Barcelona’s approaches, even mocking one publicly on social media after insider reported an offer. The Rojiblancos expect any buyer to trigger Alvarez’s release clause, which runs into nine figures. Lamine Yamal, speaking to Mundo Deportivo, made his feelings clear: “Everyone knows he's a top player, the kind everyone wants to play with. I've already said it: we're open to welcoming him, and if he comes, we'll all be very happy. I think he's a great fit for Barca's style.” Alvarez himself appears eager to push through a move to Camp Nou, and this new financial arrangement has brought the possibility closer than ever.
