Liverpool reach full agreement for Andoni Iraola's second signing have reached a full agreement to sign Atletico Nacional attacking midfielder Samuel Martinez for a fee just shy of €900,000. The 17-year-old has travelled to Merseyside to undergo his medical with the Reds, although he won’t officially join the club until next summer after his 18th birthday in April 2027. broadcaster Germany report that Martinez will sign a five-year contract at Anfield once the deal is finalised, while insider sources have confirmed that Liverpool will have a direct input on his development at Atletico Nacional over the next 12 months before he formally joins the club. Martinez reportedly caught the eye of Liverpool scouts with his performances at the South American Under-17 Championship earlier this year, with the midfielder helping Colombia beat Argentina in the final, and the Reds have fought off significant competition from multiple European clubs to secure his signature. The teenager is yet to make his first-team debut for Atletico Nacional, but Liverpool are hopeful that he will break into the senior side next season before his move to Anfield. Once Martinez’s switch to Liverpool is officially announced, he will become Andoni Iraola’s second signing at the club, following Spain winger Victor Munoz, who has joined the 2025 Premier League champions in a €40 million deal from Osasuna. Jeremy Jacquet has also joined Liverpool this summer, but an agreement was reached with Stade Rennais back in February - long before the appointment of Iraola. 🚨🩺 Samuel Martínez is on his way to Liverpool to undergo his medical. While a deal for Martinez will help bolster Liverpool’s roster of talented youngsters, the club are also keen to improve Iraola’s first-team squad before the 2026-27 campaign kicks off in August. Paris Saint-Germain forward Bradley Barcola is regarded as a top target by the Reds hierarchy, with a deal for RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande now unlikely to be agreed, while the club have also been linked with Bournemouth attacker Rayan in recent weeks. Furthermore, while the aforementioned Jacquet is expected to replace the departed Ibrahima Konate as Virgil van Dijk’s new centre-back partner next season, Liverpool have been tipped to pursue another new central defender before Deadline Day, with Giovanni Leoni still sidelined after suffering an ACL injury on his debut last year. A midfielder may be targeted too if Curtis Jones is sold amid strong interest from Inter Milan.
