insider confirms Manchester United have breakthrough for first summer signing Ederson

Manchester United are closing in on their first signing of the summer transfer window after insider confirmed a breakthrough in the deal for Atalanta midfielder Ederson. United have made midfield reinforcements their top priority this offseason, and the Red Devils agreed a €45 million fee for the Brazilian international over a month ago. However, the transfer had stalled as Ederson’s medical was reportedly put on hold until after his participation with Brazil at the 2026 World Cup. Reports over the weekend suggested United might have walked away from the deal, but Romano strongly denied that, stating the plan remained for Ederson to complete the second part of his medical in the UK after returning from the tournament. That return is now imminent. Brazil were stunned in the round of 32 by Norway, losing 2-1 in a major upset. Ederson came off the bench for his second appearance of the World Cup but could not prevent the elimination. The 26-year-old is now expected to shift his focus to finalizing his move to Old Trafford. United have been actively scouting midfield options following the departure of a key player on a free transfer, while also monitoring Manuel Ugarte’s situation. Another target, identified as a marquee arrival alongside Ederson, slipped away when Tottenham agreed to meet West Ham’s €100 million asking price in full upfront for the 21-year-old. Despite that setback, Romano insists the Ederson deal remains on track. United have also explored a move for Chelsea youngster Andrey Santos as they look to build on Ederson’s impending arrival and complete their midfield overhaul before pre-season training resumes later this month.
