Man Utd Net €12 Million Windfall as Greenwood’s Fenerbahce Move Goes Through

Manchester United’s summer transfer budget has received a significant boost after Mason Greenwood’s permanent switch from Marseille to Fenerbahce was officially confirmed. Marseille announced the departure on Wednesday, confirming the move had been mutually agreed. The Ligue 1 club are set to receive a fee in the region of €40 million for the 24-year-old, who was once capped by England. However, United stand to collect a substantial portion of that sum due to a sell-on clause inserted when they sold Greenwood to Marseille in the summer of 2024 for €26 million. insider reports that the Red Devils will pocket just over €12 million from the deal, while insider sources puts the figure between €12–13 million. The clause itself is believed to be worth 40–50 percent of Marseille’s profit on the transfer. Greenwood’s time in the south of France ended on a sour note. Despite finishing the season as Marseille’s top scorer, his attitude in the final months drew heavy criticism. He was dropped on occasion by coach Habib Beye and was handed a scathing review by local newspaper La Provence after a heavy defeat to relegated Nantes that threatened the club’s Champions League hopes. “We now understand better why the enfant terrible of English football had a little spell on the bench last Sunday,” La Provence wrote. “Scandalous from start to finish, he thought it was okay to walk after his countless ball losses, complain when his teammates didn't pass to him, or act like he was in a circus.” The controversial forward now moves to the Turkish Super Lig, with United left to count the extra funds.
