Man Utd pull plug on Ederson transfer after fitness fears
0
Manchester United have officially walked away from the deal to sign Atalanta midfielder Ederson, with concerns over his physical condition proving decisive.
The Red Devils had agreed a €45 million package for the Brazilian after a proposed move to Atletico Madrid collapsed last month. Personal terms were not an issue, and a deal with the Serie A side was in place. The clubs had agreed to delay the announcement until this month, but it has now become clear why United wanted to take their time.
Ederson has been struggling with a meniscus problem, and United's medical team carried out multiple examinations to assess the long-term risk. Today, while United finalised the signings of Andrey Santos and Karl Darlow at Carrington, Ederson was notably absent. Transfer insider insider has confirmed the club have decided not to proceed, believing the player is not fully fit.
The deal is now completely off and will not be revived. Ederson will return to Atalanta, who are ready to welcome him and have no fears about his condition. However, with only a year left on his contract, his future remains uncertain. The Bergamo club may need to find another buyer, likely for a lower fee, or risk letting him leave as a free agent next summer.
Despite this setback, Ederson is unlikely to lack suitors before the window closes in September.
