Man Utd Pull Plug on Ederson Deal, Eye Kone and Gomes as Garnacho Sell-On Looms
0
Manchester United have officially abandoned their pursuit of Atalanta midfielder Ederson after additional medical checks flagged concerns over a long-term knee problem, according to reports.
The Red Devils had agreed a €45 million package for the Brazilian but refused to finalise the transfer following the medical results. Despite walking away, United remain determined to add another midfielder to their ranks alongside Andrey Santos, who is arriving from Chelsea. However, neither Santos nor the existing options offer the same profile as Ederson.
With the Ederson door shut, United have turned to AS Roma’s Manu Kone. Gazzetta dello Sport reports that the Old Trafford club made contact with the Frenchman’s representatives. Roma are open to selling but want at least €50 million for the 23-year-old. The Serie A side attempted to offload him before the June 30 financial deadline but failed, and several Italian outlets now expect summer offers.
United have also revived their interest in Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes. Globo Esporte states that the Brazilian’s move to Atletico Madrid collapsed after almost a month of stagnation – the Spanish club instead signed Sporting CP captain Morten Hjulmand. That opens the door for United, who have tracked Gomes since his January 2023 move to Molineux.
Meanwhile, there could be an unexpected windfall for United this summer involving former academy product Alejandro Garnacho. Reliable sources indicate Chelsea, who bought the Argentine for €46.2 million last year, are ready to sell him after just one season. United inserted a 10% sell-on clause in that deal, meaning they would pocket €5 million if Chelsea’s €50 million asking price is met. Interest in Garnacho is said to be high.
