Man Utd Transfer Roundup: Rashford Spurs Talks, Ederson Deal Collapses, Gakpo Question Marks
0
Manchester United’s January window took a sharp turn on Wednesday as key moves involving Marcus Rashford, Ederson, and Cody Gakpo came into focus.
Tottenham have emerged as the frontrunners for Rashford, according to AS Roma Live. The England international was offered to both Roma and Napoli by intermediaries, but neither Serie A side is willing to match his wage demands. Spurs, however, are undeterred. Rashford’s future remains completely uncertain — a stay at Old Trafford is possible, but a departure before the deadline is equally plausible.
In a separate development, United have officially walked away from signing Atalanta midfielder Ederson. insider reports that the Red Devils had agreed a €45 million package with the Italian club last month, but the deal was placed on hold while United conducted thorough medical checks on the Brazilian following a meniscus injury. The club has now deemed Ederson unfit to proceed, and he will return to Atalanta, whose contract with the player expires next year.
Meanwhile, United’s long-standing admiration for Liverpool winger Cody Gakpo has been confirmed. The Netherlands international is facing an uncertain future at Old Trafford and has been heavily linked with Tottenham. To date, Gakpo has not requested a transfer, but if he does, several Premier League clubs are expected to show interest. United could re-enter the race given their history with the player — they tried to sign him before he joined Liverpool — though cross-city transfers between the two clubs are typically viewed as taboo.
Finally, Manchester United could receive a larger-than-expected payout from Mason Greenwood’s potential move. The Marseille forward is reportedly closing in on a switch to Fenerbahce. Turkish media, citing Sercan Hamzaoglu, initially reported a €45 million bid, but the latest figures suggest the deal could reach €55 million. United are entitled to nearly 50% of any profit Marseille make on Greenwood, whom they sold to the Ligue 1 side in 2024 for €26 million upfront plus bonuses.
