Man United Open Talks for Crysencio Summerville After Missing Out on €216m of Targets
0
Manchester United have opened discussions with West Ham United over a potential move for Crysencio Summerville, according to the media, as the club pivots after a series of high-profile transfer setbacks.
The Red Devils had made midfield reinforcement a priority ahead of the 2026-27 Premier League season, but two of their primary targets – Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali – have chosen to join Tottenham Hotspur in a combined €216 million (£185m) deal. On top of that, Elliot Anderson completed a €134 million (£116m) move to fierce rivals Manchester City earlier this week.
With those avenues closed, United are now turning their attention to the flanks. insider sources reported in June that the club admire Summerville, and the Mail now understands they have enquired about the cost of signing the Netherlands international from West Ham.
Summerville caught the eye at this summer's World Cup, scoring two goals and adding two assists in four appearances for the Netherlands. The 24-year-old was also one of West Ham's few bright spots in an otherwise dismal 2025-26 season that ended in relegation from the Premier League. Between January and February, he bagged six goals in seven games across all competitions before a hamstring injury suffered in West Ham's FA Cup penalty shootout win over Brentford in March derailed his momentum. He never fully rediscovered that form after returning a month later, a factor in the Hammers' failure to beat the drop.
However, United are not alone in their pursuit. The Mail reports that other European clubs have also made enquiries, meaning competition for Summerville – valued at around €58 million (£50m) – is heating up.
Meanwhile, United are close to securing their first summer signing. A €40.5 million (£35m) fee was agreed with Atalanta for midfielder Ederson back in June, but the Brazilian has yet to complete a medical after receiving a late call-up to his country's World Cup squad. After featuring in Brazil's 3-0 group-stage win over Haiti on June 20, Ederson told reporters his move to United is "practically almost all sorted."
