Marcus Rashford set for Manchester United stay after clearing the air with Michael Carrick

0
Marcus Rashford is expected to remain at Manchester United this summer after resolving his long-standing issues with the club, paving the way for him to rejoin Michael Carrick’s first-team squad following the 2026 World Cup. The 28-year-old forward has not played for United since 2024, having fallen out with former manager Ruben Amorim. It was widely anticipated that the club would sell him during the current transfer window to free up his considerable wages. However, a lack of suitable permanent offers has forced a rethink at Old Trafford. According to The media, representatives for Rashford held talks with United officials last month, and the forward is now set to return to training under Carrick once his England commitments at this summer’s World Cup are complete. The report states there are ‘no problems’ between Carrick and Rashford, and the player will take a three-week break after the tournament before reporting for pre-season. United’s preference remains a permanent sale, but with no club willing to meet their demands, a loan move appears unlikely. Chelsea, Arsenal and Aston Villa have all expressed interest, but only in temporary deals — something United have ruled out. Rashford himself is reluctant to join another Premier League side and would prefer to stay at United, especially after Barcelona opted against activating the €30 million buyout clause in his loan agreement. The club had hoped to raise funds from Rashford’s departure to sign a new left winger, but may now redirect resources toward central midfield. Brazilian midfielder Ederson is expected to arrive from Atalanta imminently. Rashford still has two years remaining on his contract and remains one of United’s highest earners. With his dream move to Barcelona off the table for now, he is prepared to fight for his place under Carrick.
