Thierry Henry in the frame to replace Jurgen Klopp as Red Bull's global soccer chief

Thierry Henry could be heading back into the professional game after being shortlisted for the role of Red Bull’s head of global soccer, a position soon to be vacated by Jurgen Klopp. German outlet Bild reports that the Arsenal legend is among the candidates being considered to take over the project, which oversees the playing identity across the Red Bull network — including RB Leipzig, Red Bull Salzburg, and Paris FC. Henry, 48, has been out of management since leading France’s Olympic team to a silver medal at the 2024 Paris Games. Since then, he has returned to television, working as a pundit for Fox Sports at the 2026 World Cup alongside Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Alexi Lalas. His previous coaching stints have been mixed. He lasted just three months at Monaco in 2018-19, winning only four of 20 matches, and managed just nine wins in 29 games during a single season with Montreal Impact. His work with Belgium as an assistant coach, however, earned him strong reviews. Henry also has a history with the Red Bull group, having ended his playing career at New York Red Bulls, where he twice won the MLS Eastern Conference. The frontrunner for the post is reportedly Eintracht Frankfurt sporting director Markus Krosche, with former Benfica boss Roger Schmidt also in the running. Henry faces stiff competition, but Bild suggests he is genuinely under consideration. broadcaster Sport Deutschland reporter Philipp Heinze previously stated: “Thierry Henry is not a coaching candidate at RB Leipzig. He is highly regarded and may eventually become an official part of the Red Bull group. Currently, however, he is not an option for the Leipzig head coaching position.” That comment now appears relevant as the global role becomes available. Klopp, who joined Red Bull in January, is expected to leave the post to take charge of the German national team. The former Liverpool manager described the head of global soccer role as setting a playing philosophy across the brand’s clubs, while also mentoring coaches and advising sporting directors. “I want people to see us playing and without reading the name on the shirt, they should feel it — they should know we’re Red Bull,” Klopp said upon taking the job. Henry’s legendary playing career includes being Arsenal’s all-time leading scorer and winning the Champions League. Whether he can translate that aura into a high-level executive role remains to be seen, but the door appears to be open.
