Arsenal Push for Julián Álvarez as Chelsea Circle Adam Wharton: Latest Transfer Buzz
0
Arsenal are pressing to sign Atlético Madrid striker Julián Álvarez and are eager to wrap up a deal before pre-season kicks off on 20 July, according to reports. The Argentina international is said to be open to joining the Gunners, though his preference remains in Spain amid interest from both Barcelona and Real Madrid. Crucially, Atlético have no interest in strengthening direct rivals, which could open the door for Arsenal. Manager Mikel Arteta sees Álvarez as his top attacking target, and the north London club are now pushing for an agreement, though advanced talks may have to wait until after the World Cup.
Meanwhile, Chelsea have kept in touch with Adam Wharton’s representatives as they explore a summer move for the Crystal Palace midfielder. CaughtOffside reports that Liverpool, Manchester United, and Tottenham have all cooled their interest, leaving Chelsea as one of the few remaining suitors. However, it is understood that Wharton may still be a Palace player when the window closes on 1 September.
Elsewhere in the rumor mill, Barcelona forward Ferran Torres has reportedly agreed a five-year deal with Paris Saint-Germain, according to Nicolò Schira. With Torres set to leave, PSG could allow Bradley Barcola to depart, especially as they also eye Yan Diomande and Maghnes Akliouche. Marseille’s Mason Greenwood is heading to Fenerbahçe, with Manchester United set to pocket over £10m from a sell-on clause after deciding not to trigger their buy-back. Roma are demanding €55 million for midfielder Manu Kone, who caught the eye at the World Cup, with Manchester United and Arsenal among the interested clubs. Other tidbits include Arsenal’s interest in Mikel Oyarzabal, Bayern Munich looking to extend a key player’s contract, and Aston Villa hijacking Newcastle’s move for Johan Manzambi.
