Real Madrid has officially announced the return of Jose Mourinho as head coach. The corresponding decision was made on Thursday, June 11, at a meeting of the club's board of directors chaired by Florentino Perez. The Portuguese specialist signed a contract for the next three seasons - until June 30, 2029.
In order to complete this comeback, the Madrid management had to activate the coach's early buyout clause (clause) from Lisbon's Benfica, which amounted to 15 million euros. Mourinho will officially begin his duties in Madrid on July 13, the day the team's pre-season training begins.
This is the second visit of the Portuguese tactician to the Santiago Bernabeu. Jose Mourinho already led Real Madrid from 2010 to 2013. That three-year era went down in the history of football as one of the hottest, because it was then that Madrid challenged the iconic Barcelona of Pep Guardiola.
In his first spell at the helm, Mourinho won three trophies: Spanish Championship (La Liga) - 2011/12: That season became legendary as Real won the title with a league record 100 points and 121 goals scored. Copa del Rey (Copa del Rey) - 2010/11: Cristiano Ronaldo's extra-time goal beat Barcelona in a dramatic final. Spanish Super Cup - 2012.
