The head coach of the England national team, Thomas Tuchel, made the first symbolic throw at the Kaufmann baseball stadium, the home arena of the Kansas City Royals.
England enjoyed a recovery day just over a day after in their first World Cup match in Dallas. The coach was accompanied by team captain Harry Kane and defenders Dan Burn and Jed Spence.
Kane, who scored a brace against the Croatians and played the entire match, shared his emotions from the trip on his social networks:
"Great recovery day with the boys at a baseball game. Would love to try my hand at bat sometime! Thanks for inviting us."
While the main players rested, the Football Association of England organized a closed friendly match against MLS team Sporting Kansas City. The game was played at the local Swope Village practice facility and was divided into two halves of approximately 25 minutes each.
The purpose of sparring was to give playing time to players who did not participate in the match against Croatia or did not play enough minutes. The England team won convincingly with a score of 5:1.
The main hero of the meeting was forward Ivan Tawney, who scored a hat-trick. Two more goals were added by representatives of Aston Villa - Morgan Rogers and Ollie Watkins. Players who also got game practice in this practice match included Dan Burn, Jordan Henderson, Eberechi Eze, Mark Gaye, Kobi Mainu, Jed Spence and Jarell Quanza.
After returning from Dallas late Wednesday night, the team had Thursday off to rest. The team was allowed to spend time with families and friends: relatives of the players were given access to the training camp to support the players before the next challenge.
Soon, Thomas Tuchel's men will begin active preparations for their second match in Group L against the Ghana national team. The match will take place in Boston next Tuesday. The meeting is scheduled to start at 23:00 Kyiv time.
