McGinn: The Moroccan defender blew me away.

Midfielder of the Scotland national team John McGinn commented on the World Cup 2026 match against Morocco (0:1). "We are disappointed, we feel we can give the game more, bring out our best qualities. Sometimes the referee could have helped us more with decisions and controversial 50-50 tackles. There is no problem with letting the game continue, but that consistency has to be about both teams. Sometimes it works in your favor. If we had given a couple of those penalties, I don't think VAR would have intervened. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw a player from Morocco fly into the zone. I touched the ball first, and it blew me away. In my opinion, this is a penalty. Sometimes they are prescribed, sometimes not. Had the referee blown his whistle on the field, there would have been no chance that the decision would have been overturned. Morocco is frankly lucky here. But we need to be better and create moments from the game, and not rely on the decisions of the referees," the broadcaster quoted McGinn as saying. Available for viewing on media.
