Girona is close to appointing a new coach after a change in the coaching staff. The management of the Catalan club made a choice in favor of Quique Alvarez, who is currently working with the reserve team.
According to Spanish media, negotiations between the parties are in the final stages, and an official announcement may take place in the near future.
His brother Oscar Alvarez is expected to join the coaching staff of the new manager. Thus, the team can be managed by a fraternal duo of specialists.
Quique Alvarez has experience in elite Spanish football. Previously, he was a member of the coaching staffs of Villarreal, Alaves and Levante, where he served as an assistant to the head coach.
In his new position, Alvarez will replace Michel Sanchez, who left Girona at the end of the season and continued his career at Ajax. The Catalan club was forced to look for a new coach after being relegated from La Liga at the end of the 2025/26 campaign.
