Spain make history with six straight World Cup clean sheets

Spain have set a new World Cup record, becoming the first team ever to keep six consecutive clean sheets in the tournament. The remarkable run started back in December 2022, when La Roja played a 0-0 draw with Morocco in the round of 16 before losing on penalties. Since then, they've gone five matches without conceding at the 2026 World Cup – a scoreless draw with Cape Verde, a 4-0 thrashing of Saudi Arabia, narrow 1-0 wins over Uruguay and Austria, and finally a 1-0 knockout victory against Portugal in the round of 16. Previously, the record was shared by Italy and Switzerland, but Spain now stand alone at the top. The last time the Spanish goalkeeper picked the ball out of his net at a World Cup was against Japan in the group stage of 2022. Sunday's win over Portugal sent Luis de la Fuente's side to the quarterfinals for the first time since 2010 – the year they won their only world title. On July 10 at 10 p.m. local time in Inglewood, California, Spain will face Belgium for a place in the semifinals.
