Bernardo Silva: ‘This World Cup was a failure for us’

Portugal midfielder Bernardo Silva didn't hide his disappointment after his side crashed out of the 2026 World Cup far earlier than expected. The Portuguese were eliminated in the Round of 16, falling 1-0 to Spain in a tight contest. Silva admitted the early exit was a heavy blow for the squad, who had much loftier ambitions heading into the tournament. “This was a failed World Cup, and I'm really sorry it ended much sooner than any of us anticipated. It has always been a huge honor to represent our national team. A big thank you to all the Portuguese people for the hope and support they gave us,” he said.
