Alderweireld will become one of the owners of Antwerp after the change of management of the club

Former Belgium defender Tobias Alderweireld will become a co-owner of Antwerp, joining an investor consortium that is taking control of the club. The group is headed by former Anderlecht president Wouter Vandenhoute, who has already reached an agreement in principle with the club's current owner, Paul Heyssens. It is expected that the deal, the sum of which is estimated at tens of millions of euros, will be officially completed in the coming days. Alderweireld and Vandenhaute have already addressed the fans with a joint statement. "We want to thank the entrepreneurs from Antwerp who have joined our new consortium. We are deeply moved by their involvement and love for the club. We are ready to take responsibility for the future of Antwerp together." According to HLN, an important role in the negotiations was played by the prime minister of Belgium, Bart de Wever, who helped reach agreements with representatives of the insurance company Ethias. At the same time, the general director of the club, Sven Jacques, will retain his position and will also become one of the shareholders. Last season, Antwerp finished seventh in the regular Belgian championship, did not make it to the championship group, and in the playoffs for a ticket to the European Cup, they ended their performance only in fifth place, remaining without international tournaments.
