Mark van Bommel appointed new Belgium head coach

The Belgian national team has officially named Mark van Bommel as their new head coach. The 49-year-old Dutch tactician signed a deal with the Royal Belgian Football Association that runs through the summer of 2028. Van Bommel returns to familiar territory after his last stint with Anderlecht, which ended in 2024. Before that, he managed Wolfsburg in Germany and PSV Eindhoven in his native Netherlands, and served as an assistant coach for the national teams of Australia and Saudi Arabia. Belgium parted ways with previous boss Rudi Garcia after the Red Devils were knocked out by Spain in the quarterfinals of the 2026 World Cup. Van Bommel now takes the reins with a mandate to rebuild and push the squad toward future success.
