Andrew Robertson: 'Working with De Zerbi is a huge incentive'

New Tottenham signing Andrew Robertson has opened up about the lure of playing under Roberto De Zerbi, calling the Italian coach a major factor in his decision to join the London club. The Scotland international revealed he has already spoken with the manager and is eager to absorb his ideas. "I'm full of enthusiasm because a new challenge lies ahead. It was necessary. Then I had a busy summer with the World Cup and everything, but once that was over, I fully focused on Tottenham and having a good season. Right now it's about regaining fitness, preparing for games, getting results and learning the style the coach wants us to play," Robertson said. The left-back stressed that De Zerbi is widely regarded as a fantastic coach. "We know each other - he knows me as a player, I know him as a coach. What pleased us most is that we'll now work together. That fact that he's here, I hope, will allow me to achieve really good results under his guidance," he added. Robertson also addressed the competition for places at Spurs, saying it does not intimidate him. "When you join big clubs, you understand that every position is tough. If new players come, everyone has to fight for their spot. I've been used to that for the last nine years. The quality in this squad is very good. We're determined not to repeat the failures of recent seasons. If everyone works in the same direction, we have a team that can climb much higher than before," he concluded.
