Chelsea open talks with Brighton for veteran striker Danny Welbeck

0
Chelsea have entered active negotiations with Brighton over a move for 35-year-old forward Danny Welbeck, who is keen on the switch to Stamford Bridge. Sources indicate the London club is optimistic about reaching an agreement. The pursuit of the experienced striker is no coincidence. Co-owner Behdad Eghbali admitted back in April that the club's policy of signing only young players needed adjustment. Welbeck is seen as the ideal dressing-room leader - a proven veteran who still delivers consistently in front of goal. The Englishman netted 13 times in 37 appearances last season, a personal best. Since arriving from Watford in 2020, he has scored 51 goals in 201 games for the Seagulls. In March, Welbeck signed a one-year contract extension, tying him to Brighton until the end of the 2026/27 campaign. Brighton officials have declined to comment on the ongoing negotiations. Transfermarkt values the striker at €3 million. Earlier reports confirmed Chelsea rejected a new offer from Como for Trevoh Chalobah.
