Obolon boss Antonenko: 'We did everything we planned, now we focus on Epitsentr'

Obolon head coach Oleksandr Antonenko wrapped up his team's summer training camp and shared his thoughts ahead of the new Ukrainian Premier League season. "I want to thank the players. They trusted everything we offered and completed all the planned work. There were things we needed to polish, and we did that. Overall, it went well," Antonenko said. He explained that each friendly had a specific purpose. "We set clear tasks before every game, and the lads carried them out. For us, it wasn't about the result as much as seeing the execution of what we'd been working on in training." The coach praised the squad's unity. "We have a very good group. Everyone helps the new players - the coaching staff, the club management, the teammates. The key is that each person understands he works for the team, not the other way around. They all get that." Antonenko also highlighted the growth of young players, noting that experience at senior level is completely different from youth football. "They gain confidence every year and keep moving forward." After a two-day break, the team will return to base and begin specific preparations for their opening match against Epitsentr. "We've already analyzed the opponent and watched their friendlies. It's a good side, but our job is to prepare well and execute what we've built during the camp," Antonenko stated. Regarding the away start to the season, he played down concerns. "Travel will be heavier and recovery time shorter, but the pitch is the same everywhere. Yes, home teams will have their fans behind them, but everything is decided on the field. For us, good preparation is what matters." He also expressed gratitude for the new turf being installed at Obolon Arena. "I want to thank our club president for that decision." Antonenko admitted he has never been to Kamianets-Podilskyi, where the match will be played. "This will be my first visit. I hope it will be a successful one!" The new UPL season kicks off on Sunday, August 2. Obolon will travel to face Epitsentr in the first round.
