German central midfielder Nadiem Amiri turned heads last season with an impressive haul of 17 goals and 4 assists in 35 appearances for Mainz. Unsurprisingly, the carnival club has fielded multiple inquiries this summer. RB Leipzig have emerged as the frontrunner after convincing the 29-year-old that their project is the right fit. Personal terms have been agreed in principle, sources indicate. But the Red Bulls are not yet in a position to submit a formal bid to Mainz. The club first needs to trim its own squad before pursuing the transfer. According to Transfermarkt, Amiri is valued at €17 million - a significant mark-up from the €1 million Mainz paid Bayer Leverkusen for his services back in January 2024.
