Roger Schmidt returns to Red Bull to replace Klopp as football chief

Roger Schmidt is heading back to Red Bull, this time to take charge of the company's global football operation. The German replaces Jürgen Klopp, who left the role after being appointed manager of the Germany national team. Red Bull is also making a change on the commercial side. According to the source, Florian Scholz - previously part of the RB Leipzig setup - will become the new head of that department. Schmidt, 59, is returning to familiar territory. He coached RB Salzburg from 2012 to 2014, then had spells with Bayer, Beijing Guoan, PSV and Benfica. His most recent job was at Benfica, where he stayed until leaving in 2024. The move brings him back to the structure where he already enjoyed success at the start of the last decade.
