Hugo Broos departs as South Africa head coach

The South African Football Association has confirmed that Hugo Broos is leaving his role as head coach of the national team. Broos guided South Africa to their first-ever World Cup knockout appearance. That milestone came at the 2026 tournament, where South Africa lost 1-0 to Canada in the round of 32. The 74-year-old also led the side to a bronze-medal finish at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations and became the oldest coach to take charge of a World Cup knockout match.
