AZ Alkmaar thrash PSV to win Dutch Super Cup

AZ Alkmaar won the Dutch Super Cup with a dominant 4-0 victory over PSV in Eindhoven on August 2. The game turned in the ninth minute, when PSV midfielder Joey Veerman was sent off for a rough challenge, leaving the reigning league champions a man down. AZ made the extra man count before halftime. Mexx Meerdink opened the scoring in the 25th minute, and the visitors kept their foot down after the break. Brazilian Wesley Patati doubled the lead in the 51st minute after a precise pass from Peer Koopmeiners, Elijah Dijkstra added a third in the 58th minute, and Ro-Zangelo Daal capped the scoring from the penalty spot in the 66th minute. It was only the second Dutch Super Cup title in AZ's history. PSV, despite the defeat, remain the competition's record winners with 15.
