Havertz lays down Arsenal's ambition: now we want everything

0
Kai Havertz has made Arsenal's new mission clear: the Premier League was only the beginning. The German forward says the club is now chasing every trophy available. Arsenal finally ended a 22-year league-title drought last season after three painful consecutive second-place finishes. It was almost an even bigger story - Paris Saint-Germain beat them in the Champions League final on penalties, with Havertz on the scoresheet in that defeat. The German, though, is treating it as fuel for the next push. "We want to win all the trophies. That's why we are here. We won the Premier League, but we can do much more. We need to go to another level because we know how long the season is and how hard it is to compete in every competition. We want to do even better this year and repeat our success," Havertz said. Keeping the crown will not be easy. Arsenal have never won back-to-back Premier League titles, and their rivals have raised the bar: Manchester City and Chelsea each broke their own transfer record this summer, signing Elliot Anderson and Morgan Rogers respectively. Arsenal, by contrast, have been quieter. Christos Tzolis is their only major incoming move so far, although the club is still seriously interested in Real Madrid's Vinícius Júnior. Tzolis has already got off the mark, scoring in Saturday's 4-1 friendly win over Girona; Havertz also scored in the first half. Havertz sees the competition's spending as another reason for Arsenal to push. "I think we can - or even must - go further. You see other teams getting stronger, so we have to step up again. That's why we are all here, that's why we are training hard. We want to start strongly and reach our goals again," he added. Arsenal open their campaign on 16 August against Manchester City in the Community Shield, then start the defense of their Premier League title on 21 August against Coventry City.
