Henrikh Mkhitaryan is set to begin his 20th season as a professional footballer, a milestone the Inter midfielder says proves he has approached his career the right way.
"This is my 20th season as a professional. I am very happy, and it means a lot to me. It means that, maybe, throughout my career I did everything right. That is why I have managed to play for so long."
Now the oldest player in Inter's dressing room, the Armenian veteran also opened up about his role off the pitch. Mkhitaryan said he tries to pass his experience on to younger teammates and lead by example.
"I am the oldest in the team and I try to be an example for the young players. I try to do everything correctly and show them what they can learn. This is very important - I have to help them."
He stressed that he supports his teammates during matches and away from the field, but the desire to improve must come from the players themselves.
"I do this both on and off the pitch, and then it depends on them whether they want to learn. We are one team, one family, and we have to achieve our goal together."
Inter have extended Mkhitaryan's contract.
