Nahornyak: Epitsentr finally give fans the celebration they were owed

Serhiy Nahornyak believes Epitsentr's 3:0 win over Obolon in the Ukrainian Premier League opener was about more than the scoreline. The head coach saw it as a reward for supporters who had spent an entire season following the team away from home. Nahornyak admitted the match was not easy. Heat made the first half tense and cautious, with Epitsentr creating one chance and Obolon another. The turning point arrived with a penalty the coach had no doubts about. Once the ball hit the net, his players freed themselves. The second goal came from a lovely move, and the third wrapped up the game. The coach then turned his attention to the fans. Last season Epitsentr were essentially homeless, playing in Ternopil and at the Livyi Bereh stadium. Walking out in front of a full stadium this time felt like a debt repaid. Nahornyak recalled how 10-20-30 supporters still made the trip to Kryvyi Rih, no matter how long the road. Now, with the stands packed, he believes the next match against Shakhtar will feel even more special. He promised Epitsentr will keep trying to bring joy to the people who have waited so long for it. There was also praise for Vadym Sydun. He may not have been at his best, but in the decisive moment he chased down a ball while his opponent was already five meters ahead. The coach said 80 percent of footballers would have given up on that play. It was exactly what the team talked about at halftime: keep fighting for every moment until it is over.
