Atlético join the race for Cristian Romero as Inter deal stalls

Atlético Madrid are weighing up a move for Tottenham captain Cristian Romero. According to insider Matteo Moretto, the Argentine centre-back has become the Spanish side's priority target, with the club now hoping to steal a march on Inter. Romero is reported to have already given verbal approval to a switch to the Milan club, but the Nerazzurri cannot complete the deal yet because they need to sell players first. Atlético face a similar hurdle - they would also have to trim their squad before launching a serious pursuit. Tottenham are willing to let the 28-year-old 2022 World Cup winner leave for around €40 million. His current contract with the London club runs through 2029.
