Infantino Reportedly Dangled 2030 World Cup Final to Morocco for Political Support
0
FIFA president Gianni Infantino reportedly offered Morocco the 2030 World Cup final as a political bargaining chip, The Times has claimed. According to the report, the decisive match would be staged at the new Hassan II Stadium in Casablanca if the country publicly backed Infantino amid mounting calls for his resignation.
The alleged offer came as FIFA wrestled with an internal crisis triggered by the collapse of the FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE) project. The commercial plan, designed to set up a separate FIFA business arm, was scrapped after widespread criticism from football officials.
The report also says Infantino was forced to call an emergency leadership meeting in Rabat in an attempt to restore calm after a wave of discontent over governance concerns. Several executives have accused him of using financial pressure to secure political cover, according to media reports.
Morocco is due to host the 2030 World Cup alongside Spain and Portugal, with the tournament's opening matches set for Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay. There has been no official confirmation about the final venue or any agreement between FIFA and Morocco.
