Bruno Guimarães has opened up for the first time since joining Arsenal, admitting that leaving Newcastle was one of the toughest calls he has ever made.
In a farewell message published by the London club, the midfielder said: "This is one of the hardest decisions of my life. When I arrived at the club, it was in a difficult place, and I'm incredibly proud of what we managed to achieve together."
Guimarães made it clear that Newcastle will always hold a special place in his heart. He thanked the fans, his teammates, Eddie and everyone at the club for helping him and his family settle in from day one.
He also expressed his gratitude to PIF, Yasir Al-Rumayyan and Jamie Ruben, as well as David and Ross, who he said did everything they could to convince him to stay.
"This transfer is very difficult for me because Newcastle means so much to me. But I wanted to try something new in my life. I feel ready for a new challenge for myself and my family," he explained.
The midfielder said he had a very positive conversation with Mattias Jaissle and leaves with the belief that the club is in very safe hands.
He then signed off with a heartfelt message to the Newcastle supporters: "Thank you is never going to be enough, but I say it from the bottom of my heart. I will always be proud to have been part of this club's journey. Thank you for everything."
