It's official: Liverpool have loaned Araujo from Barcelona
0
Liverpool have reached an agreement in principle with Barcelona on the loan of central defender Ronald Araujo. The 27-year-old Uruguay international will spend the entire 2026/27 season at Anfield once his work visa procedures have been successfully completed.
Ronald Araujo began his European career in August 2018 when Barcelona bought him from Uruguayan club Boston River for around €4.7 million (plus bonuses). Over the years of performances at the Camp Nou, the defender became one of the key pillars of the blue-garnet defense and collected a solid collection of 8 national trophies:
3x Spanish Champion: 2022/23, 2024/25, 2025/26 2x Spanish Cup Winner: 2020/21, 2024/25 3x Spanish Super Cup Winner: 2022/23, 2024/25, 2025/26.
Last season proved to be a test for the Uruguayan off the football field. In February 2026, Araujo made a public statement about his mental health issues, including anxiety and clinical depression, which forced him to take a temporary hiatus from performing.
The player admitted that he tried to mask his condition for a long time, but a timely break in performances and work with specialists allowed him to fully recover his moral and physical strength. Araujo's return to the highest level became an example of resilience for many colleagues in the workshop.
