The head coach of Cherkasy LNZ Vitaliy Ponomaryev commented on his team's defeat in the UPL match against Lviv Carpathians (0:3).
"Episodes decided the game today. The first half until the conceded goal - the game was equal. We had moments, Carpathians had moments. We have to finish these episodes, because they are what football consists of. We have to make analysis, conclusions. Maybe it's good that it happened. That we paid attention to our mistakes. Not only mistakes. The character of the team is very important. They always say that it is easier to rise than to hold back. But this is football. There are no teams that do not lose. We have to draw conclusions from these I think we are ready to compete.
Well, you saw, we had moments, they need to be implemented. This is the individual skill of football players. Regarding rivals... You need to do a deep analysis, you can't make hasty conclusions. We want to compete, we want to build a club. Starting with the main team, ending with the academy. But there are competitors, serious competitors, who have bigger budgets. The best football players can be bought for these budgets. It must be said that we will lose in this. This is one aspect. You have to try to win in this. Currently, there are 8-9 teams in the championship that can take points from each other and compete for the European Cup zone. The championship is long, you have to play all year, there will be different periods. Last year we had two defeats in a row. Then we made the right conclusions and achieved the result. Let's see how we react to it. We will do our best to react correctly to this defeat and be competitive. I can't promise anything. Can Shakhtar promise... And I think they are not ready to promise that they will become champions. They say they are fighting for the championship. Therefore, it is necessary to win the competition.
The main goal of LNZ is to build a strong club with a strong foundation. Today you can have a strong main team, but if there is no academy, there will be no U-19, U-21 competitive team... I don't think that such a club will have a future. The task is to build a strong club. To take 3rd, 5th, 7th place - we do not have such a task. But since we were silver medalists last season, I think it would be wrong not to set goals. If not repeated, then try to repeat this success. Of course, the coaching staff and the players set goals to be competitive. Regarding matches after European Cups. I never try to make excuses. After all, you have to go out and play to the best of your ability for 90 minutes. Today is such a time that there are people who have it much harder than us. But this was all new for our team. Getting into the Eurocups, participation, logistics, perception of how we enter the new championship after the Eurocups. No football player and coach was in such a status. Therefore, everything is new - you need to learn how to work properly. Again, this is not an excuse, but it is important.
Has the team psychologically recovered from the defeats in the European Cups? I believe that psychology is important, you have to be prepared for it. In order to compete later for prize places in the UPL, to compete in the European Cups, play two days on the third. Again, you have to try it all. Unfortunately, we try because of our mistakes. This also plays an important role.
Now our squad is perhaps stronger than last season. But how we will perform this year, only the result will show. We have serious internal competition. Now we faced a situation where we scored one point in two matches of the championship. How do we react to it? I don't know, the championship will show. Last season we had similar situations and we got out of them with dignity. Let's see how it will be this year," Ponomarev's press service quotes the club as saying.
