Coventry City have signed Gustavo Hamer

Coventry City have officially announced the return of their former leader, midfielder Gustavo Hamer. The club signed a long-term contract with the player. The transfer cost about 7 million euros. Hamer left Sheffield United after spending three seasons there. The transfer is an extremely emotional one for Coventry fans, as the 29-year-old had already played for the team for three years before joining the Yorkshire outfit in 2023 for €17m. He made 132 appearances and scored 19 goals in his first spell at the Ricoh Arena, and won the club's Player of the Year award for the 2021-22 season. Since leaving Coventry, Hamer has gained valuable experience at the highest level. In the 2023-24 season, he played in the Premier League with Sheffield United. In total, he made 123 appearances for the Yorkshire side in all competitions, scoring 22 goals and 29 assists. Prior to the start of his English career, the former Netherlands youth international featured in his homeland in the Eredivisie, defending the colors of Feyenoord and Zwolle.
