Depay may appeal to FIFA over Corinthians' €7 million debt

Memphis Depay is preparing to appeal to FIFA over Corinthians' failure to pay a debt estimated at 42 million Brazilian reals (just over 7 million euros). As reported by UOL, the Dutch striker intends to demand from the club repayment of financial obligations through football authorities. It is about several payments that Corinthians had to make in favor of the football player. These include a portion of the signing bonus, payments for image rights, and contractual performance bonuses. The financial conflict escalated after Corinthians refused to renew Depay's contract. The parties previously agreed on a new agreement, but the Brazilian club withdrew its offer at the last moment, explaining the decision by a difficult financial situation. The football player himself publicly criticized the management of Corinthians, saying that the agreements were agreed at the level of the president, sports, legal and financial departments, but later the club decided not to fulfill them. In the event of an appeal to FIFA, Corinthians may face sporting sanctions. In particular, if the club does not comply with the decision to repay the debt, the Brazilians may be banned from registering new players in future transfer windows. Depay has played for Corinthians since 2024. During this time, the 32-year-old forward made 79 appearances, scored 20 goals and helped the team win the 2025 Copa Brasil and the 2026 Supercopa Brasil.
